5 Star Designs (“we”, “us”) is a web design and local marketing studio based in Salem, Oregon. This privacy policy explains what information we collect when you visit 5tardesigns.com or contact us, how we use it, and the choices you have. The short version
- We only collect what you give us on our forms or by email and phone, plus website statistics if you allow them.
- We use it to answer you, prepare quotes and audits, and do the work you hire us for.
- We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising.
- Analytics cookies stay off unless you choose to allow them.
Information you give us
Quote and contact form
When you request a quote, we ask for your first and last name, email address, phone number, the service you need and a short description of your business.
Free website audit form
When you request a free audit, we ask for your first and last name, email address and the web address of the site you want reviewed. We then review that public website and email you the results as a PDF.
Email, phone and meetings
If you email, call or meet with us, we keep the information you share so we can follow up, prepare a quote and keep a record of what we agreed.
Payments
Clients can pay online or by check. Online payments are processed by a third-party payment processor, so we never see or store your full card number. Checks are deposited with our bank. We keep a record of each payment (name, amount, date and invoice) for our books.
Information collected automatically
Website statistics (only with your permission)
We use Google Analytics 4 to see which pages people visit, how they found us and whether our forms and phone links work. It records things like pages viewed, device and browser type, approximate location (city level) and the site that referred you. Google Analytics loads only if you click “Accept all” or turn on analytics in Cookie Settings. If you choose “Accept necessary”, it does not load at all.
Spam protection
Our forms use Cloudflare Turnstile to tell real people from bots. To do that, Cloudflare checks signals from your browser and device when you load a page with a form.
Server and delivery logs
Like every website, our web host and our image delivery network (bunny.net) automatically log basic technical details such as your IP address, browser type and the pages or files requested. These logs are used to deliver the site, keep it secure and fix problems.
Google reviews
The reviews shown on our pages are loaded through a Trustindex widget, and reviewer photos are loaded from Google. Those services receive your IP address and browser details when the widget loads, as part of sending you the content.
Cookies
Cookies are small files a website saves in your browser. We use two kinds:
- Necessary: a cookie that remembers your cookie choice for six months, plus cookies WordPress uses for people logged in to manage the site. These cannot be turned off because the site needs them.
- Analytics: Google Analytics cookies (named _ga and _ga_ followed by an ID). These are only set if you allow analytics.
You can change your choice at any time with the Cookie Settings link in the cookie banner or by clearing cookies in your browser. You can also block Google Analytics on every site with Google’s opt-out browser add-on.
How we use your information
- To reply to your request, prepare a quote or deliver your free audit
- To provide the services you hire us for and send updates about your project
- To call or email you about your request (we do not add you to a mailing list without asking)
- To understand how the website is used and improve it
- To protect the site and our forms from spam, fraud and abuse
- To keep business records and meet legal, tax and accounting obligations
Who we share it with
We share information only with service providers that help us run the website and our business, and only as much as they need to do their job:
- Our web hosting provider, which stores the website and form submissions
- Our email provider, which delivers form notifications and our replies
- Google, for website statistics (only if you allow analytics)
- Cloudflare, for spam protection on our forms
- bunny.net, which delivers the images on our pages
- Trustindex, which displays our Google reviews
- Our payment processor and bank, to take payments
We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect our rights or the safety of others, or as part of selling or transferring our business. We do not sell your personal information or share it for targeted advertising.
Client projects
When you hire us, we handle some information on your behalf:
- The text, photos and business details you send us for your website and listings
- Access to accounts we set up or manage with you, such as your domain and DNS (for example at Cloudflare), Google Business Profile, ad accounts and analytics
- Business email accounts we set up for you. We have administrator access to create and manage the accounts, but we do not read your messages unless you ask us to help with a problem.
- Form submissions from your own customers, which are stored on your website and included in its regular backups
We use this information and access only to do the work you hired us for. We do not use your customers’ information for any other purpose, and we stop using the access when your project or service ends. Your project terms cover the details.
How long we keep it
- Quote requests and emails from people who do not become clients: up to two years, then deleted.
- Client records, agreements and invoices: as long as you are a client, then as long as tax and business laws require.
- Google Analytics data: no longer than 14 months.
You can ask us to delete your information sooner (see below).
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to show you the personal information we hold about you, correct it, delete it or stop contacting you. Email [email protected] or call (503) 559-3299 and tell us what you would like. We may need to confirm your identity first, and we will respond within 45 days. We may keep some records when the law requires it, such as invoices. We will never treat you differently for making a request.
How we protect it
The site runs over a secure (HTTPS) connection, our forms are protected against spam, and access to submissions and client accounts is limited to the people doing the work. No website or email system is perfectly secure, so please do not send passwords, card numbers or other sensitive details through our forms or by email. If we need account access for a project, we will set it up with you safely.
Children
Our website and services are for businesses and adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Links to other websites
Our pages link to other sites, such as our clients’ websites and our Google Business Profile. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for how they handle your information.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle information, we will update this page and the effective date at the top.
